About Me

Hi, I’m Ashleigh Hertel, a registered dietitian passionate about helping people feel confident around food, manage chronic conditions and take charge of their health in a sustainable way.

I take a balanced, evidence-based approach, no restriction or guilt, just practical strategies that fit real life and help you enjoy food while supporting your long-term health.

My journey to becoming a registered dietitian

I graduated from NMU in 2020 and completed my community service year in Welkom, Free State. After returning home, I joined a well-established private practice, where I gained valuable experience supporting both hospital patients and outpatients.

In 2023, I took a leap of faith and opened my own practice (Ashleigh Hertel Registered Dietitian) to provide more personalised, compassionate care. I’m registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and currently completing a diabetes management course to better support clients living with chronic conditions.

My Approach

My approach is simple, I don’t believe in strict rules of one-size-fits-all diets. Instead, I work with your lifestyle, preferences and goals to create realistic, sustainable changes. Food should be enjoyable, nourishing and supportive of both your health and your happiness.

Outside of the practice

When I’m not in the practice, I’m usually outdoors with my husband and our two dogs, enjoying a walk or some sunshine. CrossFit is my outlet and I love the confidence and strength it gives me. At home, I love winding down with a puzzle, a paint-by-numbers or a great series.
